Wow, wonderful explanation of the character arc, Henya -- I think when it gets really gooey is when one such as Bree locked in the mental ward 'til old age is one day visited by the imagined son -- and suddenly everybody has to believe her...but are now transfixed by guilt from their own part in her tortured life!
