Went downtown
Wore my daddy’s frown
I was lookin kind of bad,
lookin for love…
Had on my daddy’s crown
I love the red lights of the city,
…sure, the green and blue ones too!
But red lights suit us best
When we’re in daddy’s town
As I looked around
After all, I was downtown
Thinkin nice girls cross their legs
When they’re sittin ‘round in gowns
But you were very open
Most agreeable
You were very approachable
So I said sit that sweet ass down
You crossed your legs, I opened mine
But then I crossed mine too
I was getting kind of nervous
Like some monkey in a zoo
We traded insults for injury
We acted out of school
Not backward coming forward
So I said “bet you don’t shoot pool”
You’d hustled me via restaurant and rose,
But you couldn’t do that too!
I was wrong: to the cue you clung
I now owed you a beer
The plan was set — to the bar we leapt
Surely I can’t be thinking clear
I was out on the town for fun
You were locked in some second gear
But a monkey and a night run dry
So I said, we’ll do it all again
You said “sure, bring more next time”
And I’ll whisper in your ear…
Anything could happen
“Can daddy pick you up” I said
You said…I’ll be right here!
