Member-only story
At night when stars are beaming
When one yearns for truer meaning
And astral projection is infectious
Around a star with seasons turning
Moons that swoop and swoon
Caught out among the desolate outliers
The realms of sacred ways
Put in proportion — we offer praise
A still night sky, the Milky Way
Where diamonds shine, where comets swarm
In golden dayglow or hidden storms,
Gas clouds in colored forms
As we ring around the sun
In our human space suit made for one
With ever-changing pressure
And an orbit ready chosen
New beginnings in the making
Can we make a new species care
Will it dream — past future fare
After a million years, we’re still not there
But I’m lighter than that hot air
And on any day, I’ll take my share
Grab the spoils, divvy up the soil
Preach what’s happening from our toils
In a dark universe, densely scattered
Answers are easy for those who matter
The human race
An about face
A fall from glory
Valhalla’s path
Such are the tribulations
Calculations
A species glory bent
Count the ways
Have your say
Play all the melodies
In a single air
What’s smart today
Will lose its way
And just like that
…be gone away
