Remember the phase of bygone days
Flaunting your style in myriad ways
Displays of color, displays of grays
Depraved in winter, revealed in May
To all your galley and to all your slaves
I hope they didn’t see you when you cried
I hope they didn’t hear you when you lied
The merry go round was wont to go far
But did they shed tears at the Taj Mahal
Risk the arrows, the slings and the scars
Find favor in love’s final scenes
Were they seduced by Bollywood’s queens
A dream, a shadow, O glorious schemes
Release me from the spell I’m now under
Rue the day, it shan’t fade away
Free me from my demons, unleash your prey
Break the galley, release the slaves
From your holy plinth — and your sacred ways
Set free, unbridled to roam
My scandalous nature now plunged to scorn
Precious no more; wrongly informed
Free from the angels, I shall make my return
To an unblemished vessel or an unsacred urn
