The Ways to Your Heart

If I divert my gaze from the stars
But for a moment in time
And count the ways to your heart
Will I still need to scope the skies
To implore the heavens
Fall in among sacred ways
Where angels tread, torment is praised
Or should I seek the secrets of a golden age
And sacrifice its fallen idols,
To usher in a brand-new day
Constrained by enlightenment attained
Enlist its seers of deft restraint
Lest secrets fall — lest love be tainted
Such questions abound by love when found
Even the mighty fall by this hallow ground
Lost be they in sweet surrounds
Poor of spirit, brave in flight
Untutored by enchantment’s plight
Worn down by the cunning in their fight
Appeased, they surrender to the idle night
The stakes are stacked one too much
Their dream is sought but lost by touch
Vanquished lovers fall from grace
Forged humbly by their own disgrace
Alas, once more to consult the stars
Of mysteries tales, where love has failed
To cede: the slightest nuance give way
Amidst the stars in which they play
And under which, I count the ways
