As far as the music goes -- I think the first stanza fits -- that may be about all [would've been a good idea to line it all up - but didn't]

-- the tune is an e.g. of being on a precipice; and also against Old Sanguine [ie the end of our hopes that the bad situation would get better] Hope is now 'old' -- whereas Auld Lang Syne is optimistic - and 'old is new' again ! Though with its melancholy/mixed-feelings sound!
