Takes a Village

If I go downtown
Among the living dead
Where the darlings prowl
And the hurt get fed
Can you make your way back from old Siam
From timeless bars
And fights you fend
Will you come clean on streets so mean
To restore my heart once so pure
Tread the courses where portent rises
Where streets crossover between tears and lies
Escape the maze of the tarnished state
The smoking gun of torment traipsed
Witness the ruins the young man makes
The blackened souls of the unforgiven
Laid in waste face-down with no misgivings
The void of hate, the lance of war
Mismatched battles upon which to score
Can you make your way just to take my hand
For it takes a village and takes the damned
Did you ingest the aromas of old Siam
And compare it to dark nights in Vietnam
Have you witnessed the fall of tarnished states
Leaders unforgiven with no peer nor tutor
Did you ponder the premise of a street with no future
And toast the party that governs your fate
Have you imbibed the offerings of love and hate
And shared in the sacrifices for old keepsakes
