Shangri-La
…gold and honey
Cold is war, warmly delivered
The holy path to Shangri-La
Falsely built: the monarch’s limits
Bears it all as Caesar’s prey
The king he says there is no way
All ’s adrift, do not delay
The penny drops with no pretense
To the nether world, the king relents
So, where’s the road to kingdom come
Where’s the path righteous and wrong
The teacher gives no reason be
And the kingdom falls for all to see
Backed in by a den of thieves
Conspiracy, and make believe
The path is built on rock, not reef
But sand it is …to disbelief
For empires fall and so too March
And so too the Gods and so will Marx
And so will luck …as fate would have it
And so too love — like that of Hamlet
Be as the fool of dreaded naught
And fall not to man’s ungracious folly
By the horns take its quarry
Conquer fields of gold and honey
With blessed heart and fearless soul
For Caesar’s is Caesar’s — Is he not bold
Does he not toil …or grow not old
Your Shangri-La, it falls within
Within city walls
Make haste your wont
Your wont your chore
Lay waste before your city falls
