a rude awakening
If I put on a freeze
Would you beg praise…or please
Turn ‘round one eighty degrees
Admonish the birds and the bees
Whether in wooded glen or on steamy holt
Achtung!
With one jarring jolt
Full frontal assault — like a Russian tzar
Take a bridge too far
Make achtung a halting jar
From unto which then cometh thy scars
Scarlet letters to refrain
Like the harlot of Babylon shamed
Ado about nothing in a single day, ill-famed
And if for you it is all the same
Surely I must remain
Contained — in every way
For what would it even mean
To be deflowered in one’s own dream
A rude awakening it would seem
No honor given…nor a scream
Must take precaution in all my airs
Find duty in love affairs
To the mirror a stolid blank stare
The stairway to heaven is for those who dare
Heed caution in all that you fare
And in the dreams and false witness you bear
