Out Upon the Ocean Calm

poem

Out upon the ocean calm
A tropical breeze
An ocean frieze
A day to traipse a starry balm
They call to Jesus, in hope he comes
And what to make of mysteries qualms
On dotted islets of songs and psalms
A sea floor ignited by a god’s misuse
And a blunder blown by divine obtuse
Their earthly King too steals their hearts
In paradise lost of which they’re part
An ongoing practice since the start
Two-thousand years in the eye of a storm
Their forgotten kingdom of culture born
To rack and ruin new kingdoms come
To be reborn under a blackened sun
And all the while beyond Tin Can Isle
The god of fire imbibes his ire
From his shallow reef he is the chief
To which all things come and all shall part
To wit every thousand years or so
The real king seizes the day to show
That at 5 PM when a rumbling starts
He remains unchallenged when the ocean parts
