Out on the Town

…before the fall

reinterpreted Thief art — graffiti, New York New York

Make a calculation
in the nuclear age
Or simply bide your time
while awaiting a crime
Who do we consult,
damn blast it,
where is the sage
Sleepwalking in history.
Are leaders’ sublime.
Are we in for a shock,
cuz we’re in for a pound
Will it bring in the harvest
or win them a crown.
Like sheep to the slaughter,
and the lost but not found
Did we squander our future
while out on the town
We can build a utopia
down on the farm
Join the one percent,
an unlikely underground
Tripwires, intruders,
Bouncers; sound the alarm
False flag every entrance
Keep your pennons unwound
Are we proud whence we came
With enemies to cheat
They’re beyond the pale
And they’re over the hill
They’re history repeating,
so turn up the heat
As masters of disaster,
as killers of chill
In the end there’s no end
- an inglorious plight
In the end, a new beginning,
quite dubious
Everything’s relative
- there’s always one more fight
an underground bunker,
now quite salubrious
For in the end is peace,
just before the next fall
In the end, robots
And another know-it-all
