I like the comparison to kids - I was EVERYWHERE as a kid and got to know so many people - some even became pretty famous - but I loved it - next minute you would be running with a whole new pack. You would also understand that there was ultimately a pecking order in the scheme of things, which few could see - and then that would become a goal. Nice writing Christine.
