Great comment, Anna, your passion shows -- I will say this - argue that works such as these are in other nation's museums because they appreciated them more, and thus helped put them on the map -- else they would still be underground, further degrading by the minute - It is all part of historical revisionism - some correct some not, Perhaps the caryatids and Elgin marbles should not have been removed, more visible things, but have to suspend judgement on those too! - As I say, most of these things were put on the map by western museums and archeologists - Those countries of origin didn't seem too concerned with them until they did! I personally see greed as the motivating factor, not heritage, even if that's what they argue NOW -- As I say, every case is different, but generally they have put these things on the map - I see it as the opposite, a good thing! The Nike would certainly still be rotting on Samothrace, unheard of! When it is probably the greatest example of Hellenistic sculpture on earth! It's hard/impossible to reconfigure the Revisionist mind - times were different -- not that they care, they just want an agenda - hindsight is 20/20 - they often build their moral high ground on distorted or fabricated evidence themselves!
