Hell hath no fury
Like a man called to jury duty
Lest that man be formally indicted
Whether rightfully or wrongfully cited
One cannot be informally indicted
Such a thing would bring all fantasies idle
Throw a spanner into the well sworn Bible
No, no, no — this thing is ribald
Where the poor are bent over when least expected
Before the doctor of law arrives to disinfect it
And work his way up the usury shaft
Pay his mortgage with the graft
Go all the way to City Hall
Bore everyone senseless except the law
There was a time when hell really did hath fury
It was all ado with drury* duty
When women could come, make a stand
Make an offer, say, a hundred grand
It could have been a free for all
Things were looking up at long last, for the poor:
To be a victim, not just an eyesore
But in blew the storm to ruin it all
Now it takes a gale to make a windfall
Else go to college and be a poor bore…
Else go to college and learn to make law
