“Charlie’s good tonight isn’t he” Mick Jagger calls to the New York crowd on the live Rolling Stones record Get Yer Ya Yas Out. And so for those not aware of the drummer until then— they were now. It’s 1969.

Keith Richards has cited Charlie Watts as the secret weapon in the Rolling Stones and Keiths own ability to draft his magic.

Today Charlie is worth about 160 million bucks and plays blues, jazz and of course rock’n roll. He was originally trained as a graphic artist.

Watts met his wife Shirley Ann Shephard before the band made it big, they married in 1964. They have one daughter, Seraphina, born in 1968.

The couple stayed together even while the band were on tour, and the other members were partying hard. Today they run a horse stud in Devon.

Charlie says if he had successfully gone down another path in life it would have been as a cricketer.

Happy Birthday Charlie.
