And the caryatids taken from the [apparently] reworked Erechtheion - its asymmetrical shape and uneven land construction are intriguing -- a wooden Athena as juxtaposed with the Parthenos, large bronze - I agree Moses, I mean M -- and who could disagree with these esteemed historians and philosophers, among them one George Clooney -- That said, I think the British pieces may have put Greece's relevance into perspective, if for no other reason, but to talk about the country in a crowded space [world stage] - now the avg person knows "about Greece" -- Same with pieces like the so-called Winged Victory of Samothrace, in the Louvre -- I think these pieces draw attention to much of the wonders of Greece -- They add to the color and wonder -- where was the staue dug up, where was the colossus at Rhodes, etc, etc, even though mentioned in historical text -- Great piece M! As I say, I agree -- but I think I'm also indebted to such museum pieces, that afterall have been lovingly restored and kept by foreigners while the owners left them in rubble!
