a poem
Do I need to cast out seven demons
Or wander a desert and find all the reasons
Lay prostrate in a temple
Search for the damned
Cry for the babies lost in Vietnam
Can we find the answers in those without a voice
Are we downfallen and do we have a choice
Who are its arbiters, who claims its jewels
Who are the master race
Who were born to rule
Can I span the ages, the past and evermore
Fathom an ocean — from the sea to the shore
Conquer dark continents, climb the highest peaks
Counter all marauders then inflict defeat
Can earth come of age
Will a kingdom be
The promise of the ages, prophets of the free
A burning star, a hallow hill — thither come a storm
Burning bright, shower o’ light
Can we be reborn
Ancient transgressions
Peloponnesian wars
Religious persecutions pedaled by the score
A thousand plagues, renegades
All in days of yore
Papal States, reprobates
In a holy war
The Promised Land, A General’s stand
Execution, Charles De Gaulle
Retribution, a world at war
The final solution
All is fair in revolution
